musik @ Oak Meadow

From a young age, music ignites all areas of child development; intellectual, social, emotional, motor skills, language skills and general literacy. Singing songs helps children learn the sounds and meanings of words.

Our Goal

Musik Meadow teaches your toddler or preschooler fundamental music and life skills through unique and engaging musical activities that build teamwork, cooperation, and spark the imagination. In each class, your preschooler will explore making and noticing patterns, singing and tonal processing, short- and long-term musical memory, understanding sound and silence, playing with song structure and dynamics, and improving auditory focus and listening skills.

About Musikgarten

At Musik Meadow's we believe that music benefits the whole child, that every child is musical, and that patterns are the pathways to musical literacy

Benefits of Music in Early Childhood Development

  • Music is a language, and children are oriented toward learning language.

  • Music evokes movement, and children delight in and require movement for their development and growth.

  • Music engages the brain while stimulating neural pathways associated with such higher forms of intelligence as abstract thinking, empathy, and mathematics.

  • Music's melodic and rhythmic patterns provide exercise for the brain and help develop memory. Who among us learned the ABC's without the ABC song?

  • Music is an aural art and young children are aural learners.  Since ears are fully mature before birth, infants begin learning from the sounds of their environment before birth.

  • Music is perfectly designed for training children's listening skills.  Good listening skills and school achievement go hand in hand.

  • Developmentally appropriate music activities involve the whole child: the child's desire for language, the body's urge to move, the brain's attention to patterns, the ear's lead in initiating communication, the voice's response to sounds, as well as the eye-hand coordination associated with playing musical instruments.

  • Music is a creative experience which involves expression of feelings.  Children often do not have the words to express themselves and need positive ways to release their emotions.

  • Music transmits culture and is an avenue by which beloved songs, rhymes, and dances can be passed down from one generation to another.

  • Music is a social activity which involves family and community participation.  Children love to sing and dance at home, school, and at church.

We believe Musikgarten has no equal.

  • Our early childhood program is expertly planned, executed, and supported.

  • Our teachers enjoy their studios.

  • And our students, well, they just seem to love coming to Musikgarten.

Age-specific Curricula

Musikgarten offers instruction which is just right for each age level—from your baby who benefits greatly from being part of a live music environment, right up through school-age children who delight in our group piano classes.

Beginning simply with singing, moving, and exploring rhythm instruments, we add levels of complexity as the children grow, expanding the singing repertoire, teaching more complex dances, and building instrumental ensembles. Children coming through the Musikgarten program inherently "know" the music they eventually play in later years in group piano instruction.

Research

Music and movement can have a dramatic effect on babies, toddlers, and older children as well. Some studies indicate that early music instruction positively impacts language and literacy development; others point to improved pattern recognition skills which are the basis for mathematical learning; still others reveal the social and emotional benefits of being involved in music. Given our long-standing reputation as the leader in the field of affordable early music education, Musikgarten can give your child a learning advantage for life.

Expert Teachers

Musikgarten's expertly trained and well-supported teachers combine a love of music and an understanding of children and the way they learn into lessons that children and their families love, using folk music and fun activities.

Experience

Our founders have been involved in early childhood music education since before it was recognized. Dr. Lorna Lutz Heyge has been developing early childhood music curricula for more than 30 years, while Audrey Sillick has been training early childhood educators for 40 years.
